Alison was raised in California, where her exposure to the arts began at a young age. She experienced her initial foray into teaching as a Teaching Intern at San Francisco Day School’s Summerbridge Program (now called Breakthrough Collaborative) where she taught math and dance to 4th and 5th graders. Alison attended the University of California at Berkeley and was a proud member of Cal Band clarinet section (‘Net Pride!’). She graduated with a degree in Sociology and a minor in Education before deciding to move to the Big Apple. In 2006, Alison began her graduate studies at Teachers College, Columbia University, pursuing a master’s degree in Elementary Inclusive Education and Teaching Students with Disabilities. There she student taught in a variety of elementary-level school environments and grade levels. After her master’s degree, Alison spent the last two years teaching 2nd and 3rd grade at The Town School where she often attended professional development workshops addressing the teaching of literacy. In her free time, Alison enjoys dancing, listening to music, watching live theatre and exploring NYC. She is excited to join the Bronx Arts Community as a 2nd grade classroom teacher and help bring the joy of both learning and arts to her students.
