Our Success

Our Success

In February 2015, the New York State, Board of Regents granted a full five year extension of the school’s charter to June 2020. We have worked hard to improve student achievement and have gained the confidence of all stakeholders.

Despite the challenges of the Common Core State Standards, our teachers have worked hard in preparing our students for annual New York State assessments in English Language Arts and Mathematics. On the spring 2014 assessments, our students have performed well above the New York State, New York City and the local community school district averages in most testing grades in both English Language Arts and Mathematics. Below, please find the comparative data.

English Language Arts (Percent of Students Proficient)

  Grade 3 Grade 4 Grade 5
Bronx Charter School for the Arts 19 34 38
New York State 31.8 33.2 29.7
New York City 30 28.4 28.4
Community School District 8 20 20 18

Mathematics (Percent of Students Proficient)

  Grade 3 Grade 4 Grade 5
Bronx Charter School for the Arts 59 45 65
New York State 42 42 39
New York City 38.7 40 38.8
Community School District 8 26 28 28

Based on the New York City Department of Education School Quality Guide 2013-2014, our school received favorable ratings in all four areas. See information below.

  • Student Progress – Exceeding Target
  • Student Achievement – Meeting Target
  • School Environment – Meeting Target
  • Closing the Achievement Gap – Meeting Target

The school also received ratings of Excellent and Good for the performance of Students with Disabilities and English Language Learners for the performance of these sub-groups in both English Language Arts and Mathematics.

The survey administered in spring 2014, indicated high rates of satisfaction among our parents and staff as follows:

  • Parent Satisfaction – 95%
  • Teacher Satisfaction – 97%

We are providing guidance to our students to grow as scholars, artists, and individuals. Our success is about more than test scores as we believe that compelling performances, inspiring artwork, and most importantly, the confidence and joy our students express everyday are also vital measures of our school’s success.
